Top 10: Recession-Proof Chains

-- Restaurants & Institutions, November 1, 2008

Is pizza more recession-proof than other foods? Recent data from V-Enable, a San Diego-based mobile voice search technology provider, suggests that might be true.

Studying a random sampling of 20,000 customer searches for restaurants in major metropolitan areas, the company found that pizza chains took four of the top 10 spots, while casual-dining concepts such as Orlando-based Olive Garden and Lenexa, Kan.-based Applebee’s lost their places on the list. Following are V-Enable’s Top 10 restaurant searches.

1. Pizza Hut
2. McDonald’s
3. Domino’s Pizza
4. Starbucks
5. Papa John’s
6. Little Caesars
7. Taco Bell
8. Burger King
9. Wendy’s
10. Denny’s
