New American Diner Study: Changing Priorities

It's no surprise that more than half of Americans--58.7%--say the economy has affected their dining-out habits in the past year. More revealing, however, are the different actions those diners are taking to deal with the downturn.

It’s no surprise that more than half of Americans—58.7%—say the economy has affected their dining-out habits in the past year. More revealing, however, are the different actions those diners are taking to deal with the downturn. While a whopping 85.9% are eating out less often, consumers also are finding ways to adjust their habits so that they can still make restaurants part of their regular routine. About three-quarters say they’re choosing less-expensive restaurants; 50.1% take advantage of coupons or special deals more often; 49.1% choose restaurants closer to home; and 48.1% adjust their orders to reduce the check.
