Rank of salads among dishes ordered at lunch and dinner as complements to entrées. Salads are especially popular at lunch, when they were chosen by 30% of consumers during their most recent lunch out; only 17.3% ordered appetizers. At dinner, salads retain their popularity: 35.7% of diners say they opted for a starter salad during their most recent restaurant dinner. But appetizers rock with younger demographics: More than 40% of diners age 41 or younger say they ordered appetizers with their dinner entrées, compared with 32% who chose a salad. |

Only 6.8% of women say they ordered a beer with their dinner, but 13.5% indulged in a cocktail, compared with 10.5% of men. Gen Y diners (age 26 or younger) are most likely to have beer or a cocktail, but Matures (age 61 or older) are most likely to have wine with dinner. |
