When?

By the Editors -- Restaurants and Institutions, 1/1/2007

WHEN?
52.4% Percent of frequent/occasional dinner diners who say those meals always or often are shared with friends, family or co-workers, making it the most social meal occasion. Among frequent/occasional lunch buyers, 41% say friends, family or co-workers are always or often with them.
3 p.m. Time at which 42% of consumers strongly agree that they already know whether they will prepare dinner at home or dine away from home. The older the respondents, the greater the likelihood their dinner plans will be set by this time.
9% Percent of frequent/occasional breakfast buyers (42% of the total sample) who say they get a morning meal from a facility in their workplace. That increases slightly to 10.3% among frequent/occasional lunch buyers (70.7% of all respondents).
1 The perfect party size sometimes: 8.5% of frequent/occasional diners say they always or often have dinner by themselves in a restaurant. Breakfast and lunch are twice as likely as dinner to be “solo diner” occasions, with 16% and 15.1% of respondents, respectively, saying they always or often enjoy those meals out alone.
