Grow with Grains
-- Restaurants & Institutions, 3/1/2008
Teach kids the importance of whole grain with a curriculum developed for educators, nutrition professionals and foodservice operators in schools with grades K-5. Developed by health professionals at the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition at General Mills, Go With the Whole Grain for Kids is a lively way to help children learn about the benefits of whole grains and how they can incorporate whole grains into their diet.
The fun and engaging curriculum includes a slide program featuring the energetic Whole Grain Heroes Grain Boy and Grain Girl, classroom activities and fitness activities.
Students will be able to identify grains and where they come from, foods made from grains and whole grains, the difference between refined flour and whole-grain flour, and the benefits of making whole-grain food choices.
“Go With the Whole Grain for Kids is a turnkey program designed to align with school wellness policies. The curriculum and accompanying activities can be easily incorporated into current nutrition or health units,” says Amy Loew, M.S., R.D., Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition at General Mills.
