Collective Effort Pays Off
-- Restaurants and Institutions, 7/1/2008
This past fall, 17 college and university campuses participated in the Yoplait® Save Lids to Save Lives® program to raise money for the breast-cancer cause. Every fall, special pink lids top Yoplait® yogurt cups, and for every lid saved and mailed in by Dec. 31, Yoplait® donates 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, up to $1.5 million with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000.
“College students are very cause-minded,” said Julie Anderla, promotion manager, General Mills Foodservice. “The Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives challenge provides foodservice operators an opportunity to engage their students.”
General Mills Foodservice provided participating schools with marketing tools such as collection bins, banners, t-shirts and other giveaways. Leading this year’s efforts was Georgia Tech, who collected more than 12,000 lids through a collaborative effort with on-campus dining services, the campus chapter of ZTA and the women’s basketball team. Participants were recognized in February at the institute’s Think Pink basketball game (above).
College and university foodservice operators interested in the 2008 Challenge are encouraged to call (800) 882-5252.
