Sometimes “new” is a relative term. This year, some of the most fun and innovative Top 400 menu introductions are unexpected combinations of traditional consumer favorites. Somehow it all adds up.
Potato chips + nachos = Potachos (r.), from Spartanburg, S.C.-based Denny’s. Fried kettle chips are topped with crumbled sausage, bacon, peppers, onions and plenty of melted cheese.- Fajitas + deep-dish pizza = Chicken Fajita Deep Dish from Boston-based Uno Chicago Grill. Grilled chicken, melted Cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, peppers, onions and salsa fill a deep-dish crust.
- Onion rings + potato skins = Smokehouse Stuffed Rings from Littleton, Colo.-based Champps Restaurant & Bar. Thick-sliced onions are breaded and fried and topped with barbecued beef, melted cheese, diced green onions, lime sour cream and barbecue sauce.
- Spinach-artichoke dip + stuffed mushrooms = Stuffed Portobello Mushroom from Dallas-based Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza. A grilled portobello mushroom is filled with a blend of spinach, artichokes and three cheeses.
