It’s no secret that America’s slowing economy affects the restaurant industry. As R&I reported last month, sales at the top 400 restaurant chains grew 5.4% in 2007 over the prior year’s 6.8%. And as business slows, so does ad spending. Advertising Age finds that ad spending last year grew less than 2% among the Top 100 U.S. advertisers—the smallest increase since 2001. Among restaurants, ad spending increased a negligible 0.5% last year over 2006.
Below are the top 10 most-advertised restaurant brands, ranked by U.S. ad spending (in millions) in 2007, according to Advertising Age research.
