Villanova University Dining Services (Ivy '04) celebrates birthdays once a month, adding the festivities to dinner service in its three resident dining halls. Anyone whose birthday falls in that month can gather for cake, a performance by the Villanova Singers and a coupon for the new campus smoothie bar. (Summer birthdays are tucked into spring celebrations.) Mandi Hurvitz, central services manager at the Villanova, Pa., school, says the event is a good deal for students and a nice way to acquaint them with the smoothie bar. Hurvitz says that students sometimes forget about the tradition. “When they walk into dinner, it's always a little bit of a surprise.”
