TOP 10: States with the Highest Average Gas Prices
-- Restaurants and Institutions, 9/1/2008
Rising gas prices leave consumers with fewer dollars to spend, prompting some to dine out less. In a recent conference call, Chris Sciortino, director of Milwaukee-based Robert W. Baird’s investment banking department, asserted that rising gas prices directly correlate with chain restaurants’ declining comparable-store sales. Drivers in some states feel more pain than others when filling up their tanks. According to gas-price-monitoring site GasBuddy.com, Alaska and Hawaii’s state capitals top the list of cities with the highest average gas prices, but California alone claims five cities (San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Ventura and Riverside) in the top 10. Here are GasBuddy.com’s 10 states with the highest average gas prices:
| 1. | Alaska | $4.84 |
| 2. | Hawaii | $4.56 |
| 3. | California | $4.28 |
| 4. | Connecticut | $4.16 |
| 5. | Oregon | $4.16 |
| 6. | Washington | $4.16 |
| 7. | Utah | $4.15 |
| 8. | New York | $4.14 |
| 9. | Idaho | $4.11 |
| 10. | Montana | $4.06 |
