How to Get Staff and Customers to Go Green

October 28, 2009

Want your staff and customers to be a part of your green efforts? Employees and patrons can greatly affect your restaurant’s environmental impact. Involving them in the process and allowing them to make greener choices is one of the best ways to expand upon your environmental initiatives.

Reusable dishes for staff: Staff meals are an important part of restaurant life. Make employees feel at home with reusable plates and utensils, and reduce your environmental impact at the same time by eliminating disposables.

Carpool: Offer incentives to employees who carpool, like special parking or a weekly stipend for gas costs. Incentives can be effective for encouraging staff to take public transportation as well.

Start a reusable mug program: Offer an incentive to guests who bring their own travel mugs for coffee and tea.

Provide bike racks: Show customers that you appreciate their efforts to bike to your location rather than drive. Offer them a safe place to stow their wheels while they dine.
