Pollution and Chemical Reduction: 4 Quick Ideas

September 3, 2009

I’ve blogged about chemicals and pollution before, but it’s always smart to keep the conversation going. Here are a few tips to keep you creative and resourceful as you incorporate a pollution- and chemical-reduction plan into the daily practices of your restaurant:

1. Use one multipurpose cleaner rather than several special-purpose cleaners.
2. When it’s time to replace uniforms, consider providing staff with nonwhite shirts/coats and pants, as these require less hot water and fewer harsh chemicals to clean.
3. Use live plants throughout the restaurant to improve indoor air quality.
4. Regularly check and maintain storm drains on your property to keep litter, debris and soil away from them.

There are other ways to go green as well. You can use a reverse osmosis system from PureOFlow that uses 75% less filters, uses no salts or chemicals and has a reclaim/recyclable system that has a zero waste. Visit www.pureoflow.com for details.
