Banning QSRs Doesn't Provide an Obesity Fix

Burger King Units Will No Longer Employ 14-Year-Olds
When Burger King Corp. last week completed its purchase of 72 restaurants formerly owned by an Omaha, Neb., company, it was bad news for some younger workers. Simmonds Restaurant Management Inc. routinely hired 14- and 15-year-olds, but that conflicts with Burger King's policy. Lane Cardwell: So Long, Secret Ballot
"Access to union representation is a right that workers have long enjoyed in this country," writes Chain Leader's Lane Cardwell. "When a group of workers are asked to vote to decide whether they want to be represented by a union, in the past the decision was decided in a secret ballot election by the employees. The Employee Free Choice Act will eliminate the secret ballot election, and permit union organizers to go directly to individual employees, at work or at home, and ask them to sign a card that is a public vote for representation by the union."
